“I was fortunate to be able to attend one of the premiers of this film for Women’s Equality Day, in one of the several theatres that debuted the film.  I knew when I saw it that we had to try to get screening rights – it’s so well-made and insightful about the position of women in our culture,” said Pamela A. Kaylor, Ph.D., associate lecturer, communication studies/women’s, gender, & sexuality studies, Ohio University Lancaster. “Director Kamala Lopez goes beyond just telling a story; this is obviously a labor of love and activism for women everywhere.”

Equal Means Equal is an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. By following both real life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, Produced by Patricia Arquette, and directed by Kamala Lopez who discovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace matters to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, the healthcare system and the legal system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws in place that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.
