Lancaster – The Ohio University Lancaster Campus and Pickerington Center are going to work to both become fitTOGETHER certified in 2013.The goal of fitTogether is to promote healthier eating habits and exercise to members of the community. Businesses who want to become fitTOGETHER certified need to show a committee that they are promoting healthy lifestyles in the work environment.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to become fitTOGETHER certified," said Lancaster Campus Dean Jim Smith. "We know how important it is for our employees to have opportunities in the work place to exercise and eat right."
Smith is working with The Zone staff to make sure healthy options are available in the vending machines, in addition to the traditional vending machine snacks.
Employees will be encouraged to use the exercise facility on the Lancaster Campus or walk the bike path during lunch.Healthy tips and recipes will also be published in the the weekly Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Newsletter.
"I have already mapped out walking paths near the Pickerington Center," said Pickerington Center Director Leigh Atkinson. "I'm encouraging our employees to walk the paths to get some exercise during breaks at work."
Exercise group activities will be planned throughout the year for employees as well.
Communications and Marketing Manager Cheri Russo, Communications Studies Professor Candice Thomas Maddox and Interim Director of Community and Corporate Learning Ron Cullums will be champions of the cause on the Lancaster Campus.
