June 19, 2018 : Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s “HELLO, DOLLY!” To Open July 22nd

DollyOhio University Lancaster Theatre continues its spectacular 2018-2019 season with the hit Broadway musical, Hello, Dolly!  The show opens on July 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. as a featured event during the historic Lancaster Festival. More performances will run Thursday, August 2 – Sunday, August 5, 2018.


Hello, Dolly! tells of the romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and “woman who arranges things”. Bursting with humor, joy, and high-energy, Hello, Dolly! includes such classics as “Put On Your Sunday Clothes”, “Ribbons Down My Back,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “Elegance,” and “It Only Takes a Moment”. The cast and crew are currently in the middle of rehearsing, intent on producing a spectacular show. The show is a community production and includes not only Ohio University Lancaster Theatre students, but also many community members.


Angela Russell, a native of Lancaster, is vocal directing the show as well as dancing and singing in the ensemble. She is thrilled to be a part of the show, saying, “Vocal directing and being in the show is an awesome experience, with an amazing cast bringing to life a timeless musical full of love, laughs, and some of the best music on Broadway today”. The cast also includes members from the surrounding area.


whetstoneJohanna Whetstone, who is a student at Muskingum University majoring in Theatre and Music, plays the role of Irene Molloy. When asked why she likes the show, she said that it is “a lost type of musical theatre show that fills people with a sense of joy, whether it is your style of music or not”.


brookeBrooke Arnold, a Communications and Theatre student at Ohio University Lancaster, who also plays the role of Irene Molloy, echoed that statement, saying “the energy and joy of the show just puts a huge smile on your face”.


Like many golden-age musicals, the characters in Hello, Dolly! bring to the stage a larger-than-life presence and constant energy. This constant energy can present a challenge to an actor to keep through the entirety of the show, but the cast of Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s production are up to the challenge.


nickbrentonNicholas McInturff, who plays the role of Cornelius Hackl alongside fellow castmate Brenton LeuVoy, enjoys the challenge, saying that “the characters are just constantly filled with this optimistic energy that leaves you feeling like you can’t help but root for them”. The cast and crew are thrilled to be sharing the 15-time Tony Award winning musical with the community.


Alexandra Downour, a Sugar Grove native and Ohio University Lancaster Theatre student, is the assistant stage manager for the show, as well as in the ensemble. She says that this show is perfect for the entire family and encourages everyone to see it saying that “it’s a classic love story downourwith lots of laughs and is fun for all ages”.
