Lancaster – Students and Alumni who share the Ohio University connection often form a bond that is difficult to break.  Several students from Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington now have a new Bobcat bond with a member of the Lancaster business community.
David Scheffler hosted an Ohio University Alumni Association luncheon called “Lunch with 12 Strangers” at Shaw’s restaurant in downtown Lancaster last Friday. Students from OUL were invited to attend the lunch in an attempt to strengthen the Ohio University community by connecting students with alumni and faculty.
Scheffler is an Ohio University alumnus, a long-time resident of Lancaster and a retired partner/consultant of an international accounting firm. He recently stepped into the role of Executive Director of Destination Downtown Lancaster and has served on the boards of many local, state and international organizations. Scheffler also pursues fine art photography and exhibits in galleries in Ohio and South Carolina.
Scheffler opened the lunch by introducing himself to the group of students and telling his regional campus story.
“I attended OUL for a time while pursuing my degree at Ohio University,” said Scheffler. “The education you get on a regional campus is really great because some of the students are older, and they are very prepared and interested.  I found the classes to be very beneficial.”
Scheffler then asked the students to introduce themselves, talk about what degree they were pursuing at OUL and what they hoped to do with that degree once it was completed.  A mix of communication, management, health administration, history and English majors were at the table.
“This event was a great opportunity for our students to network with David and also meet other students with similar aspirations,” said OUL Director of Development Mandi Custer.
The Ohio University Alumni Association plans to host more events like this in the future.
