February 18, 2015 : Electronic Media and Medical Assisting Degrees Featured on OUL TV Program
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager
Lancaster – Two associate’s degree programs offered at Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington were featured on this month’s edition of “Fairfield Today at OUL.”  The television program runs on the Lancaster Schools Network.
Lecturer and Program Coordinator Cynthia Boles and one of her students, Corey Wildi, spoke about the Medical Assisting Technology program.  Students in the program learn the front and back office procedures that health care professionals require of medical assistants. It’s a versatile program that leaves students many options upon graduation.
“We have our students learn to draw blood, process specimens, take vital signs and learn front office skills like scheduling,” said Boles.
“I decided to pursue this degree because I have been a patient numerous times in my life, and I have seen how a medical team can work well and how they cannot,” said Wildi. “I want to be a person that says ‘I’m here to help you.  I’m not here to just do my job and walk away. I actually want to help you get better and better yourself.”
Lecturer and Program Coordinator Angelique Gibson and one of her students, Michelle Fox, spoke about the Electronic Media Technology degree at OUL which is also a degree with versatility.
“The program covers design for web, video production, video game design, music production, sound production and animation,” said Gibson. “It’s pretty much all content generation that we can do for the internet, broadcast or even for film.”
The electronic media field continues to grow as new technologies are developed. Almost every business uses social media and advertising, and many are looking for new graduates to bring a fresh approach to their customer outreach. Upon graduation, the student will be qualified to apply for positions such as production assistant, entry-level web designer, and positions in content creation.
“There are so many talented people in the Electronic Media program at OUL,” said Fox. “Angelique has so much experience, and we’ve met so many people with experience in the business and learned so much.”
Fox is finishing up her Electronic Media degree now and plans to continue at OUL to get a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies.
