Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster Theatre is going on the road again this summer.  For the second year in a row, it has been asked to take its spring production down to Athens to be part of “On the Green Weekend.” The event is put on by the Ohio University Alumni Association and is a spring Homecoming centered on academics and the arts.  It started on Wednesday, May 27 and runs through Sunday, May 31.
On Friday, May 29, alumni can take in a performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" by the Ohio University Lancaster Campus Theatre. The 7:30 p.m. show will be held at Baker University Center Theatre. Admission is free.
“We are taking the entire cast crew, technical staff, and orchestra to perform at “On the Green,” said OUL Theatre Director Victor Jones. “The students will be staying in dorms. We put the set up and tech the show in one day on Thursday, perform the show the next evening, and strike the show immediately after on Friday night.  Then, we return early Saturday morning.”
The 25th Annual Putnam County SPELLING BEE is a musical comedy and is a fun time for all who attend because it also involves audience participation. It examines the personal lives, triumphs and struggles of a group of teenagers preparing for their annual spelling bee.
"It is such an honor for our theatre students to perform our production at “On the Green,” said Jones. “I am so proud of the work that we do on our campus. Taking a major production on the road is an experience that the students will treasure for a lifetime!"
