August 16, 2012
The Director of the Ohio University Pickerington Center has been selected as the chairperson for the National Association of Branch Campus Administrators Conference which will be held in April of 2013. As the conference chair, Leigh Atkinson is responsible for organizing and carrying out the annual conference, which will be held in Freehold, New Jersey.
"I was appointed to the position by the executive committee under recommendation by the vice president/president-elect," said Atkinson. "And it is quite an honor to have been selected as the chair for the NABCA Conference this year."
NABCA promotes the interests of branch campus administrators and explores the opportunities and issues that affect their campuses and institutions. The volunteer organization aims to create a forum for professional development, information sharing and dissemination, and the study of the management, teaching and learning environment on all higher education branch or regional campuses.
"This year we are continuing to focus on expanding the participation at the conference and increase the level of professional experience for all involved," said Atkinson. "We are changing the focus of NABCA from only being a conference, to being an organization that is active all year."
The 16th annual conference is scheduled for April 10 – 13 at host institution, Brookdale Community College. The theme for this year's conference is Uniqueness in Unity.
"All of the regional campuses are different in how they are run, where they are located, who governs them, how they are funded and so on. We are all unique," said Atkinson." However, we all face the same challenges in making things work and doing more with less and being creative, so we are united."
Each year, the conference moves to a different location around the country. Atkinson has been attending and presenting at the conferences for the last seven years.
