In-Demand Real Estate Courses Offered Completely Online

RealEstateIndividuals wanting to earn licensure in Ohio’s real-estate industry can begin the required coursework completely online through Ohio University’s Lancaster Campus and Pickerington Center.  All four of the Real Estate classes required to sit for the State Brokers’ Examination will be offered online; with the first two foundational courses launching this summer.

“Ohio University is one of only two institutions offering these classes online in the entire state of Ohio,” said James M. Smith, Dean, Ohio University Lancaster, “and their affordability as well as the OHIO credential sets them apart from the competition.”

Ohio University Students may also enroll in the real estate course sequence for credit as part of their curriculum.

Real Estate Principles and Practices and Real Estate Appraising will be offered during the initial summer slate:

  • Real Estate Principles and Practices - Course includes land and its description, rights and interests in real estate, contract law and real estate contracts, title transfer, deeds, leases, financing and mortgages, taxes, home ownership, urban planning, brokerage operations, appraisal and value, applied real estate math, and Ohio requirements for real estate licenses.
  • Real Estate Finance - Introduces the essential elements of real estate finance, including the current real estate market, types and sources of real estate loans, how to obtain a real estate loan, the foreclosure process in Ohio, the role and function of the secondary market, government involvement in real estate finance, construction and development lending, and commercial real estate loans.

All four required courses will be offered online during Fall and Spring semesters, the two foundational courses as well as Real Estate Law and Real Estate Appraising:

  • Real Estate Law - Includes all legal areas commonly concerned with typical real estate professionals. Among topics covered are law of agency as applied to real estate brokers and sales personnel, law of fixtures, estates, conveyancing of real estate, mortgages and liens, license laws of Ohio, and zoning.
  • Real Estate Appraising - Overview of the field of real estate appraisal in Ohio. Introduces the function of the appraisal profession, licensing requirements in Ohio, process of real estate appraisal, and primary methods used to appraise real estate.

“There has been increased demand for these classes,” said Smith, “so they are expected to fill up quickly.”
