Alexander Local Schools currently have two afterschool programs, one at the elementary and the other at the Jr. High/High school. Alexander Jr. High/High School Kids on Campus is funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant awarded from the Ohio Department of Education, and serves students in grades 6 through 12. Students receive a snack and some free time directly after school to transition into the program. Students participate in study tables and math and reading intervention for 60 minutes daily. They then join academic enrichment clubs of their choice to put concepts learned during the school day in to action. These clubs also allow students the opportunity to explore college and career options.
In August of 2016, we were awarded a second 21st Century grant with Alexander Schools, this time to support afterschool and summer programs for elementary children from kindergarten through fifth grade. The program now serves over 100 students. In addidition to the turoring and extra homework help from elementary teachers, students are also receiving a nutritous snack, math and reading intervention, and academic enrichment activities.
