About Us: Advising Options

You can choose from two options.

Walk-in Advising

You can stop by during our walk-in advising hours to meet with the advisor-on-duty for quick questions.  No appointment is necessary, and meetings are limited to 15 minutes.  Students will be seen in the order of arrival, so you may have to wait if there are students ahead of you.  If the advisor determines that you have a complex issue that requires more than 15 minutes, they may ask you to schedule a longer appointment.

We offer walk-in advising from 1:30 to 4:00 every weekday except for Thursday.  We reserve Thursdays for internal meetings, and are not available to answer questions.

Scheduled Appointments

If you are not available during the walk-in advising hours, or if you have a complex question that you believe will take more than 15 minutes, you can schedule an appointment by calling our office or stopping by during business hours.  We recommend scheduling an appointment if you wish to discuss changing your visa status, applying for reinstatement (if your SEVIS record has been terminated), or if you have a lot of questions about CPT.  Please note that we do not schedule appointments to discuss how to apply for OPT.  Instead, please sign up for an OPT workshop in iCats.

Scholars (visitors conducting research and visiting professors) can schedule an appointment with a scholar advisor by calling our office or stopping by during business hours.  Unfortunately we cannot offer walk-in advising for scholars at this time.
