Sorority & Fraternity Life at Ohio University

Ohio University's Sorority & Fraternity community has existed at Ohio University for over 160 years, and is home to over 30 social fraternities and sororities and over 2,500 affiliated students. The Sorority & Fraternity Life Office, a part of the Campus Involvement Center, assists the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Women's Panhellenic Association (WPA), as well as the Order of Omega and Rho Lambda honor societies. The office also has oversight over the Greek Community Council (GCC) and partners with the Sorority & Fraternity Life Committee. Finally, staff help to advise the planning committees for Greek Week and the Homecoming Competition week, an annual awards program, and an annual organization officer training event. Staff also assist with several reoccuring events such as the Fall Holiday Gift Wrapping Event and the Spring All Greek Expo.

Fraternities and sororities at their core are values-based organizations focused on a lifetime commitment to develop members dedicated to the principles of scholarship, leadership, service, philanthropy, and brotherhood/sisterhood. Students demonstrate this commitment throughout their undergraduate careers by maintaining a higher average GPA than the all-university average. In addition, Sorority & Fraternity Life provides opportunities for leadership development through serving as chapter or council officers, allowing students to manage everything from recruitment events, budgets and finances, and large and small scale event planning. We give our students conference and development opportunities not accessible to the typical student – ones focused on the ideas of making the fraternity and sorority community better and developing our members into leaders. Furthermore, affiliated members recognize their privilege as undergraduate students and give back to the community through record-breaking service, volunteer, and philanthropic opportunities.
