2016 Academic Innovation Accelerator Proposals

The Office of Instructional Innovation’s (OII) Ideation Event on September 16 sparked ideas for teaching and learning that could be implemented across OHIO. After in-depth discussion and guidance between attendees and Advisory Group members, these ideas were transformed into formal proposals to be considered for possible funding through the Academic Innovation Accelerator. Read more about the Accelerator here.

The proposals are made visible below, or you can download them all in this PDF. Hover over each submission for more details, and click to review the complete proposal. The Champions Group selected Imants Jaunarajs’ proposal on microcredentialing to receive funding. Several of the proposals below are advancing through other channels.

SELECTED AIA PROPOSAL

Submitted by Imants Jaunarajs

Through this pilot program, the Division of Student Affairs’ 1,000+ student employees will have the opportunity to participate in activities and demonstrate proficiency in eight leadership skills: self-awareness, interpersonal development, team development, problem-solving, adaptability, innovation, cross-cultural competency, and wellness. Students will be able to display their microcredentials (described in the proposal as a “non-credit bearing, performance-based, observable competency”), and they are expected to be able to articulate the value of the leadership skills they acquire. These soft skills, combined with the technical skills typically learned through classwork, will equip students to enter the workforce possessing the leadership qualities that employers desire. This program is expected to be scaled across the University for all OHIO students.
