Minimum wage rate increases January 1

Effective Jan. 1, 2018, the minimum wage for non-tipped employees will increase to $8.30 per hour (up $0.15 from current rate of $8.15) and for tipped employees the minimum wage will be $4.15 per hour (up $0.07 from the current rate of $4.08).

Departments do not need to adjust the employees’ pay rate to the new minimum wage rate in WorkForce. Payroll will make the necessary adjustments as part of the annual calendar year updates and the new rate will be reflected in employees’ first pay in 2018.

Departments should not adjust hourly rates that exceed the minimum wage rate at this time.

Please note that there will be no central funding provided to departments for this minimum wage adjustment. Departments will need to account for this increase in their budgeting processes.

To find out more about the increase, see the news release on the Ohio Department of Commerce webpage.
