Healthy OHIO 2017

The following email was sent to all employees currently enrolled in a medical plan.

Dear Employee:

WellWorks and Human Resources have been working diligently over the last year to develop Healthy OHIO into a more engaging program. In Spring 2017, we were excited to bring on board OhioHealth as a biometric screening partner to offer on-site and local screenings to OHIO employees, spouses and partners. In addition, to expand the program beyond physical health components and allow participants to work on their well-being goals all year long, Ohio University partnered with Virgin Pulse to offer their robust online wellness platform. The platform offers participants the opportunity to set and track well-being goals in nine thrive areas including being productive, managing finances, contributing to my community, and building relationships. To help achieve your goals, Virgin Pulse offers self-paced online learning modules called “SelfHelpWorks” in areas including stress reduction (LivingEasy), smoking cessation (LivingFree), nutrition (LivingLean), alcohol control (LivingSmart), diabetes (LivingWell), and physical activity (LivingFit).  

Starting Fall 2017 additional changes to the Healthy OHIO schedule, rewards, and employee eligibility are being implemented. The goal of the changes is to encourage and reward ongoing, year ‘round healthy behavior as opposed to the one-time Healthy OHIO screening. 

Reward Changes
Previously a $120 reward was available once per year for completion of biometric screening, a health risk appraisal, and attending a coaching session.

In the new reward system, up to $260 can be earned annually as follows:

  • $60 for the annual Healthy OHIO Biometric Screening 
  • Up to $50 each quarter through participation in the Virgin Pulse wellness platform

Up to $50 in rewards can be earned each quarter by joining the Virgin Pulse wellness platform and setting and tracking wellness goals and progress, participating in challenges, and completing SelfHelpWorks learning modules to earn points. As your points accumulate, you reach higher levels within the program. Each level is associated with an increasing, cumulative reward. Points will reset each quarter to keep participants engaged and motivated.

Under the new reward system eligible employees and their spouse/partner will be able to earn up to $260 per year. (All cash rewards are taxable).

Eligibility Change
As of October 1, 2017 Healthy OHIO eligibility has changed from all benefits eligible employees and their spouse/partner to medical plan enrolled employees and their covered spouse/partner. 


  • Athens Campus: Healthy OHIO biometric screening will be available from October 2 – November 30. Screenings will be available on campus in Baker Center on October 18, 2017 and through the Athens WorkHealth Clinic located in the Castrop Center on the Ohio Health O’Bleness campus.
  • Regional Campuses and Centers: Healthy OHIO biometric screenings will be held on each regional campus in March 2018. Additional information will be provided to each campus closer to the March screening dates.
