Search Committee Training

University Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion, and the office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance have partnered and recently released a Search Committee Training and toolkit with a focus on not only diverse, but also inclusive faculty and staff searches. The foundational training consists of two two-hour modules, which focus on the entire search process including establishing search committees, creating recruiting plans, and evaluating candidates. Those who participate in the live training will also be given additional resources through ongoing outreach and monthly learning opportunities!

OHIO Search Committee Training: Preparing for the Search

This two-hour course is geared towards search committee chairs and department heads. The training focuses on establishing inclusive search committees, writing inclusive job descriptions, and creating inclusive recruitment plans as well understanding the impact of bias in these early stages of the search process. Those interested in participating in this course may register for upcoming, centrally-offered sessions here.

OHIO Search Committee Training: Candidate Evaluation and Selection

This two-hour course is geared towards search committee chairs and members. The course focuses on creating inclusive, consistent, and compliant candidate evaluation and selection processes and discusses the impact of bias during the later stages of the search process. Those interested in participating in this course may register for upcoming, centrally-offered sessions here.

Monthly Newsletter and Lunch and Learn Series

All past participants of OHIO Search Committee Training will receive a monthly newsletter, Continuing The Conversation, which shares relevant tools, articles, and case studies to build upon the foundational pillars of the training.

All past participants are also welcome to attend our monthly lunch and learn series which also aims to dive deeper into topics introduced in OHIO Search Committee Training. Whenever possible, lunch and learns include remote participation opportunities and/or are recorded. Past sessions have addressed a wide variety of topics including impact of flex policies on recruitment and retention, mock interviewing, understanding "fit" as coded language in the interviewing process, and more. Search Firms

Search firms are traditionally only utilized for executive level positions. However, under special circumstances, units may seek to explore utilization of search firms for particularly unique or hard to fill positions. Please contact your HR Liaison or Nick Wortman, Director of HR Services at wortmann@ohio.edu for more information and guidance.
