In support of our vision, and to support each employee's pursuit of excellence, continuous improvement, and professional growth, Ohio University has developed a comprehensive framework for professional development called Professional Development Pathways. 

Professional Development Pathways provides tools, guidance, and learning opportunities for employees and supervisors who want to invest in talent development and career growth. Through this program, competencies (knowledge, skills, and behaviors) required for success are clearly defined, specially-designed training and certificate programs add structure and excitement to the development journey, and meaningful development discussions and on-the-job learning experiences are encouraged. 

Professional Development Pathways is built upon three significant lines of work: 

Competency Training Framework
Competencies represent knowledge, skills, and behaviors that contribute to success in a particular role or job. Based on input from over 100 Ohio University employees, 56 competencies that contribute to successful performance in University positions have been identified and documented in the Ohio University Competency Model and Dictionary. An Enhanced Accessibility version of the Competency Dictionary is also available. 

Badging and Certification
To further promote skill development in targeted areas, badges are issued for various learning experiences, and specified collections of badges lead to certificates. Certificates are structured in a way that encourages and recognizes staff for learning and demonstrating new skills effectively. 

Learning Management System (LMS)
A Learning Management System (LMS) provides easy access to online learning opportunities and assists in tracking training completion. The LMS keeps a record of employee learning experiences, both those that are instructor-led and those offered in an online interactive format.
