Enrolling in Benefits

Benefit elections and changes must be made online using My Personal Information (MPI): Self Service Benefits.  Accessing the system will allow you to view your current benefit selections, enroll in coverages as a New Hire, enroll or make changes during the annual open enrollment period held each Spring or make changes throughout the year if you experience a qualified life event.

How to Enroll or Make Changes To Your Benefits:

New Hires

New Hires are strongly encouraged to attend a New Faculty & Staff Orientation Session.

Newly hired benefits-eligible employees must enroll in benefits within 31 days of their start date.  Otherwise benefits may only be elected during the annual open enrollment period or due to a qualifying life event.  Employees may access the MPI: Self Service Benefits system on or after their date of hire. An OHIO ID and password are required to log in. This is the same ID and password you use for your Ohio email. Download the MPI: Self Service Benefits User Guide for instructions on enrolling in benefits.

The effective date of coverage for a new hire is their start date. If benefit elections are made, or changed, after a payroll has processed retroactive premiums will be deducted in the next payroll.  

Follow these steps to enroll in benefits:

1.  Set up the Multi-facor Authentication requirement

2.  Log in to My Personal Information (MPI)

a.    Visit: https://www.ohio.edu/ebiz/ebiz.html
b.    Click the My Personal Information option.
       **You will need your OHIO ID and password to access MPI. This is the same ID and password you use for your Ohio email.
c.    Select the Self Service Benefits option.
d.    To make benefit elections and/or add dependents, follow the on-screen instructions or refer to the user guide.

3. Remember to print or save your confirmation statement

Please Note:  You will be required to provide documentation supporting your qualifying life event. For example, for the Marriage life event, you will need to provide a copy of your Marriage Certificate. Visit https://www.ohio.edu/hr/benefits/healthcare/verification.cfm to view a complete listing of required documents. For more details please refer to the user guide.

Open Enrollment

Changing Benefits Due to a Qualifying Life Event

Benefit changes due to a qualifying event must be made within 31 days of the qualifying event.  Otherwise benefits may only be changed during the annual open enrollment period. Download the MPI: Self Service Benefits User Guide for instructions on updating your benefits.

Follow these steps to make changes to your benefits:

1. Contact University Human Resources’ Employee Service Center (ESC) at 740-593-1636 or benefits@ohio.edu to initiate a change in your benefits due to a qualifying life event.

2. Human Resources will activate your ability to make enrollment changes in MPI: Self Service Benefits.
