Scholarly Interests

My research focuses on the measurement of the energy cost of physical activity and its effects on health outcomes such as obesity, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and type II diabetes mellitus in children.  


Selected Publications

Dr. Howe has published numerous articles in academic journals related to exercise physiology, diabetes, obesity, and the tools used to research these. They include Energy expenditure and enjoyment of common children's games in a simulated free-play environment in 2010, A recess intervention to promote moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in 2012, and METs and accelerometry of walking in older adults: standard versus measured energy cost in 2013.
