Graduate Student Senate (GSS) is one of the five shared governance bodies within Ohio University administration and recognized by the Board of Trustees. The purpose of GSS is to act as the official representative body of graduate students enrolled at Ohio University. GSS "is to participate in the formulation and application of both university and community policy, and with the goal of enhancing the quality of life and education of all graduate students"( GSS Constitution, approved by Board of Trustees 4-11-03).

GSS represents all Ohio University-Athens campus graduate students and their interests. We examine issues that affect the graduate student community, and submit reports and recommendations to The   Office of the President,   Budget Planning Council,   Graduate Council,   Standing University Committees, and to several of the college deans.

Get involved!

Because the GSS plays an active role in shaping university policy, getting involved with the Graduate Student Senate is a great way to better the Ohio University student experience, connect with graduate students from other disciplines, and become a student leader. If you are interested in getting involved at Ohio University, we welcome you to check out our  Join Us  page, and hope you will consider joining the Graduate Student Senate.

Information about the Original Work Grant and the Travel Grant can now be found on the  Graduate College webpage.

The Original Work Grant (OWG) supports research and creative work. It is intended to fund direct, project-related expenses such as travel, lodging, materials and equipment related to research. Any graduate student enrolled for at least 1 credit hour and pursuing a graduate degree at Ohio University can apply for this grant.

The Travel Award (TA) supports travel to present original work, including research and creative works. The Travel Award is intended to enhance graduate education through participation in seminars, workshops and conferences, fostering professional development to further students’ careers. Come to our meetings!

GSS holds General Body Meetings twice a month in Walter Hall, Room 235, which are open to the public. Every meeting has a Speak Out session at the top of our agenda (around 7:30/7:45 PM); students, faculty, or community members can use this opportunity to speak out on matters and to inform the body on matters relevant to graduate students.
