Newly Admitted International Students

Welcome! We are excited you will be joining us at Ohio University and hope you find your time here academically and personally rewarding. Now that you have been admitted, the resources below will help get you started.

We are sure you must have many questions. This PDF slideshow will give you information on the following topics: before you leave, travel arrangements, if you are bringing your family, after your arrival and what to expect in Athens.

International Student Handbook (PDF) - A useful guide for arrival, study, and immigration

Coming to OU (PDF) - Information for before you leave your home country

Once you have been admitted, you will need to apply for a student visa (F-1 or J-1), which requires a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20/DS-2019). Directions and specific information about student visas can be found here: I-20/DS-2019

Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)

Transferring Your Funds to Athens

If possible, ask your bank to wire transfer your fees and maintenance money to Ohio University. Please contact the Office of the Bursar at 740.593.4130 for specific instructions. After you arrive, you can arrange to have your funds sent directly to you in the same way. If wire transfer is not possible, then ask your bank to issue a check drawn upon a branch bank in the United States. Do not travel with large sums of cash!
