Katie is majoring in Journalism (Strategic Communications) and Global Studies (East Asia). She studied abroad in Japan through the Musashi University Exchange Program. She has also traveled to South Korea.
What skills do you feel you've gained from going on a global program?
I was someone who lived a fairly sheltered life, and I feel like that changed in both my academic and personal life. My professors at Musashi challenged me to attend talks at other universities, interview people on topics I was interested in, and learn in new ways. I got the opportunity to learn about life from students all over the world, including France, Japan, China, and Italy.
What is one of your favorite memories from your global program?
Getting huge boats of french fries at Izakayas and drinking with friends from all around the world.
What advice would you give a student you is interested in a global program?
Take a risk! Spend time researching your interested program and go for it! You may end up with a unique college experience and a story you can tell for the rest of your life. Also, make your money work for you! Make sure to research financial aid options to see how you can save while abroad.
