Information for OHIO faculty and staff traveling abroad
The Office of Global Opportunities is pleased to share the following information about resources available to OHIO faculty and staff. When traveling for OHIO business, we recommend that you sign up for international emergency health insurance as well as International SOS emails and updates for your destination.
International SOS Services
Ohio University has contracted with the premier international service provider, International SOS. International SOS supports faculty, staff and students when emergency medical, personal, travel, legal and security assistance services are needed when traveling overseas on OHIO business. One phone call connects a traveler to the International SOS network of multi-lingual staff trained to help resolve these issues. The international SOS network of critical care and medical specialists operates 24 hours a day from International SOS Alarm Centers around the world.
Go to International SOS’s website or download the ISOS Assistance App for more information. When setting up your account, please use OHIO’s International SOS membership number 11BCAS000010. On the International SOS website, you can sign up for email updates for the countries of your choice.
Health Insurance – Cigna Global/Lloyd's International Travel Insurance Program
While your Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage may work in some international locations, this is NOT guaranteed. It is strongly recommended that you register for this additional international plan, which provides better coverage in all international locations.
This international health insurance coverage is available to all OHIO staff and faculty traveling abroad for OHIO business. The Office of Global Opportunities works with University Health Plans to offer a unique insurance program with Cigna Global/Lloyd’s International Travel Insurance Program. The policy works in concert with International SOS. Because of the relationship between International SOS and the plan administrators, emergency management and health-care decision-making is simplified for staff faculty and staff.
The policy provides coverage for your benefit, including emergency health insurance, medical repatriation, accidental death and dismemberment, repatriation of remains and medical security evacuation. This coverage is for international travel only and does not cover you while in the U.S.
The 2019 daily rate is $1.50. The cost of this coverage can be billed to any university account or can be paid by personal check. You may split payment between methods if your trip includes both business and personal travel.
Please see the Summary of Benefits for additional information about the coverage.
To register travel and utilize these benefits, please complete the OHIO Faculty and Staff Enrollment Form.
You will need the following information to register:
