Summer Programs

Summer at OHIO

 

Ohio University's Summer Programs  utilize Athens and the OHIO campuses as an educational and cultural hub offering a number of short-term programs in the summer. The target audience ranges from international students from abroad to domestic and international students in the U.S., from high school students to entry level and senior level professionals. 

  • The Institute for International Journalism   offers the Annual Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) Summer Institute on Journalism and Media for international journalism scholars and media experts from around the world.  Click here   for more information.
  • The Center for International Studies offers the Swahili STARTALK Program, which is a tution-free program for local college and high school students. The program focuses on the Swahili language, but students who enroll will learn about African economics and culture and take part in out-of-class events
  • The Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) offers a  "Go International" summer program, a one-week multicultural experience for high school students. The enrolled students learn basic Japanese and cross-cultural communication by studying and socializing with high school students from Tokyo who are on campus studying English. 
  • The Ohio University School of Media Arts and Studies hosts its annual  High School Media Workshop   each July. The July 2015 workshop welcomed students from eight states and an international student from Vietnam. While at OHIO, the students were introduced to the latest techniques and equipment in audio, video, games & animation, and storytelling/producing.
  • The Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine offers outstanding summer experience programs for individuals who are preparing for medical school.
  • Ohio University offers a wide range of  youth sports and recreational programs  on campus during the summer. These programs are designed to engage youth in fun while learning about and gaining skills in golf, basketball, soccer and other activities.
  • Students interested in a career in journalism are able to enroll in an intensive four-day lesson in the profession during the  Ohio University E.W. Scripps School of Journalism’s High School Journalism Workshop  each summer. The July 2015 workshop welcomed the largest group to date, as it was made up of 141 students from 14 states and Canada. The week introduced students to fundamentals of journalism from conducting interviews and story topics to more advanced subjects such as web design and photography.
