Gillian Ice
Gillian Ice, Ph.D., M.P.H. is a professor in the Department of Social Medicine, and African Studies (OU) at Ohio University and serves as the Director of Global Health for College of Health Sciences and Professions and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also serves as the director for the newly developed Master of Global Health program. She teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate classes for global health.
Research/Professional Areas of Interest
Dr. Ice’s research explores stress and aging with a focus on grandparents caring for orphaned children and the impact of living arrangements on the well-being of older persons in a variety of settings. She is currently working on a variety of health systems strengthening efforts. She was the PI on two projects funded by the American International Health Alliance from 2013-2016, which assisted the Institutes for Health Sciences, Gaborone, Botswana (IHS) in the development of a bachelor’s of nursing and integrating research and HIV/AIDS into the health professions curriculum. She also received funding from Ohio University and Fulbright to conduct research trainings in Ethiopia, Rwanda and in Athens with Egyptian Fulbright Scholars.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Ice has taught at Ohio University for 20 years. Her teaching includes public health and preventive medicine topics for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and a variety of online classes for Global Health. Her current classes include, Fundamentals of Global Health, Globalization and Health, Global Health Capstone: Interprofessional Experiential Learning, Masters Scholarly Preparation and Experience.
