CELEBRATING 30+ YEARS OF PAINTING + DRAWING
AT OHIO UNIVERSITY

 

During the fall semester 2018 The School of Art + Design is excited to host alumni, friends and community for a series of events celebrating the 30+ year contribution of faculty member Robert Peppers to the Painting + Drawing program. Events include an opening reception for Peppers’ retrospective exhibition, visiting artist talks, an alumni group exhibition, a Saturday morning symposium, and a welcome back party!

EXHIBITION & RECEPTION
ROBERT PEPPERS: COLLAGE IMPROVISATIONS

Join us for a retrospective exhibition of longtime faculty member, Robert Peppers, as we celebrate the work and career of the artist/teacher for his steadfast dedication to the Painting + Drawing program at Ohio University for over 30 years. Exhibition is on view September 18–October 13 in the Trisolini Gallery in the Baker Student Center, with a reception planned for Thursday, September 27 from 6–8 p.m., refreshments will be provided.

IN THE FIELD: B.F.A./M.F.A. PAINTING + DRAWING ALUMNI EXHIBITION

In conjunction with celebrating 30+ years of Robert Peppers teaching career, In the Field looks back on the work of B.F.A. and M.F.A. alumni of the Ohio University Painting + Drawing program. The public community and past and present students are welcome to join the celebration by attending the opening reception Friday, September 28 from 6-9 p.m. at the Majestic Galleries in Nelsonville, Ohio.

SYMPOSIUM
THEN AND NOW: A LOOK AT PAINTING + DRAWING AT OHIO OVER 30+ YEARS

Join the School of Art + Design in discussing experiences in the Painting + Drawing program at Ohio University as well as memories of Robert Pepper's 30+ year teaching career. During the symposium you will ear about what stuck out to our alumni and what they are up to now. You will also see images of work alumni made during there time here as well as images of new work being produced.

VISITING ARTIST TALK: CRAIG DRENNEN 
OHIO alumnus Craig Drennen, (M.F.A. Art History '91, M.F.A. Painting '90), is an artist based in Atlanta, GA and a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow. His recent solo exhibition “BANDIT” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Georgia included a catalog with essay by Diana Nawi. His work has been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, and The New York Times.  He has been a resident artist at Yaddo, MacDowell Colony, and the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. He teaches at Georgia State University, served as dean of the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture for four years, and writes for Art Pulse magazine.
