Beneath a cool sky on Monday, February 27, 2017 a group of excited musicians lugged their instruments a dozen blocks or so, through busy Manhattan streets, just south of Central Park. Members of the OHIO Wind Symphony carried themselves with nervous energy and anticipation while navigating pedestrian and vehicular traffic in small groups, winding their way toward the back entrance to Carnegie Hall for a very unique dress rehearsal. The concert, a celebratory affair honoring the 100 year legacy of the Ohio University School of Music, represented many firsts for the students. For some, the first time in New York City, for others the first time on stage at this renowned venue. A March 13 article in The Post, highlights some of this experience.
Graduate student, Daniel Spencer said he was excited to not only to be performing at Carnegie Hall but also to play in front of the composers of the original works in the program who would be in attendance at the concert, including Mark Phillips and Dave Malloy.
