Dr. Garrett Field delivers invited lectures at the University of Colombo and U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka

Garrett Field will give two invited lectures in Sri Lanka un July 2017, while he is conducting research in the country.

 

This summer Dr. Garrett Field, Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology/Musicology, will deliver two invited lectures in Sri Lanka. Both presentations pertain to his new book Modernizing Composition: Sinhala Song, Poetry, and Politics in Twentieth-Century Sri Lanka (University of California Press, 2017).

[Update:] On July 11, Field delivered a public lecture at the American Center at the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka. On July 29, Field will speak at the Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies at the University of Colombo. The title of this speech is North Indian Connections: North Indian Influences on Sinhala Song and Poetry in Twentieth-Century Sri Lanka.
