Rowena Pedrena

MFA 2013, Film

Rowena hails from New York City by way of South Jersey.  After graduating in 2005, Rowena moved to NYC to pursue a career in writing and stand-up comedy.  There she produced several comedy shows "The Tsumami Express" and "Hook-ah Laugh" and performed at venues such as Comix, Broadway Comedy Club and Stand Up NY.  She has taken classes with Second City and the P.I.T. (Peoples Improv Theater) and does freelance work with an independent TV producer based out of North Jersey.  In addition to performing and writing jokes for her fellow comedians, Rowena wrote and produced a TV pilot for the NYTV Festival called "Life on the B-List".
"Writing and producing is what I want to devote my life’s work toward. Because of my unique work experience as a writer and comedy and TV producer, I can comfortably mediate between the business and creative worlds without compromising my own artistic integrity."

Rowena hopes to have a career in television and someday become a showrunner.  She also would like to develop a foundation that provides funding to Asian American artists and helps promote their work and support their artistic endeavors.

Currently, Rowena is working on her MFA degree in Screenwriting and Directing and also takes on the role of Producer on many projects. She writes original content for Television and Film and is working on developing a comedic web series that will feature a straight man and a gay woman who discuss and troubleshoot their woes of dating women entitled, "Lez-Bro".
