Samuel Witmer

Voice Instructor

Sam Witmer, baritone, is an active teacher and performer of opera, musical theater, concert works, and choral music. He has performed roles including Fred Graham in Kiss me Kate, Neville Craven in The Secret Garden, Paul in Glass’ Les Enfants terribles, and Ben in Menotti’s The Telephone. He has won first place at the state and regional levels of the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition and performed as a National Semifinalist.  

As a concert soloist, Sam has performed the baritone/bass solos in works such as Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Bach’s Jesu, der du meine Seele, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, among others. As a chorister he enjoys performing with the Lancaster Chorale, a professional choir based in Lancaster, Ohio.  

In addition to Ohio University, Sam has taught voice at Marietta College and Hocking College. His students have advanced to the national level of the NATS competition.  

Sam received his Master of Music from The Eastman School of Music and his Bachelor of Music from Ohio University.
