Bradley Naylor enjoys a varied career as a conductor, singer, and educator. He is Assistant Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Activities at the Ohio University School of Music, where he conducts the University Singers and The Singing Men of Ohio and teaches courses in conducting and choral music. In May of 2018 Dr. Naylor will make his Carnegie Hall conducting debut directing Mozart’s Coronation Mass, K317.

Naylor’s performance career as a solo and ensemble singer has taken him throughout North America and to Costa Rica, Scotland, England, Wales, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Korea, and China. During the 2017-18 season he will appear with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale for three tours in production and promotion of their upcoming studio album. He has sung with the Schola Cantorum of Boston, the King’s Chapel Choir, the Yale Schola Cantorum, and the Christ Church Parish Choir in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Naylor has appeared as tenor soloist with the Choral Society of Durham, the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Durham, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Evansville Bach Singers, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and for the 2015 Kentucky Gubernatorial Inauguration.

Dr. Naylor composes and arranges music for a wide variety of ensembles and in a variety of styles, ranging from pop a cappella to sophisticated original compositions for unaccompanied choir and choral-orchestral suites. In 2016 Dr. Naylor adapted two such suites – “Porgy and Bess,” and “West Side Story” – for soloists, chorus, and orchestra for the 50th anniversary of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his arranging and composition, Dr. Naylor is an advocate for choral innovation in his programing choices. In 2011 he was a founding member and singer in the Raleigh-area professional jazz octet Avante Vocal Jazz. In 2012 he founded A Clarion Sound, a chamber choir in Durham, and directed its inaugural concert, “Music for Holy Week” to great acclaim. Dr. Naylor is active throughout the region as an adjudicator and festival clinician, and holds professional memberships in the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and its state affiliate, the Ohio Music Educators Association.

A native of Houston, Texas, Dr. Naylor received a bachelor of arts in music magna cum laude from Brown University, a master of music degree in choral conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and master of musical arts and doctor of musical arts degrees, both in choral conducting, from the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Marguerite Brooks and Simon Carrington. Prior to his appointment at Ohio University, Dr. Naylor taught at Kentucky Wesleyan College as Director of Choral Music and in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia as Visiting Assistant Professor and director of the Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs.
