Comics & Graphic Novels: Introduction to Cartooning and Graphic Novels: In this course, students learn the fundamentals of making cartoons and graphic novels. This course covers drawing and illustration basics, honing ones cartooning style, storyboarding, and post-production. We will also read several graphic novels and comics theory.

  • ART 1800 Digital Photography: Personal and Public • 1 credit • Kate Hampel

      • Photos are powerful. They are a language all their own and continue to evolve. This two-week course invites students to explore the possibilities of the digital image. Through online introductions, assignments, and guidance (both synchronous and asynchronous) students take photos focused on creative expression, technique, and relevancy. Discussions and assignments center around the impact of the image online, photography and pop culture, and the significance of contemporary photographic art. This class addresses cultural, social, and ethical issues involving digital photos and the influence an image can have. Students learn how to read an image and articulate conceptual and formal qualities of photographs.

      • This Acting Fundamentals class is customized for online delivery. It focuses on the intersection between performance and mindfulness and cultivating creativity. We explore the application of traditional acting values to both traditional performance texts and diverse fields of interest. The class includes a yoga inspired warm-up, introduction of breathing techniques to develop presence and confidence, and the creation of dramatic and character driven pieces. The class will be taught both synchronously (Mondays and Wednesdays 9:40-11:40 a.m.) and asynchronously. This course will meet during the defined day(s) and time(s) using video conferencing technology.
