GRADUATING STUDENTS FROM THE SCHOOL OF DANCE PRESENT NEW CHOREOGRAPHY IN ANNUAL SPRING CONCERT
• On Compass
The school of dance presents the annual Spring Senior Dance Concert, the culminating project for B.F.A. dance majors, presented Friday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. And 9:00 p.m. With a matinee, Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. Held at the Shirley Wimmer Dance Theatre—located in Putnam Hall, general admission is $8.00 per ticket and students are free with valid OHIO student id made possible through support from arts for OHIO.
This spring, five seniors employ their unique perspectives in newly created choreographic works, performed by individuals or groups, presented together in a coordinated concert event, the highlight of the student’s year-long capstone projects.
A solo dance work, what it is, choreographed by Kelsee Booker, reminisces on the times when we find ourselves having to ‘go with the flow.’ through the sound of blues and dynamic movement that reflect the soul, we are reminded to find the best of every situation, though the rhythmic blues coupled with sensual movements, remind us once again that life is what it is.
Freedom to feel, a solo piece choreographed and performed by Chloe Carpenter, mines emotional vulnerability experienced when falling in love. The words euphoria, endangerment and exhaustion transform personal experiences into felt movement performed in freedom to feel.
The work in saturation, a group piece of nine performers choreographed by Becca McNay, reflects on femininity through a lighthearted lens. Based in nuanced movement partnered with sound by percussionist Morgan Seig, in saturation explores how clarity and structure convey a sense of humor alongside mystery.
Rachel Larkin’s group dance what lies beneath us is inspired by an ant colony’s ability to work together and accomplish tasks paired with Paganini’s Caprice for solo violin no. 4.
Inside out, choreographed and performed by Emily Vizina, expresses the sensation and life of the inner workings of the body and facilitates conversation between organs, thoughts and emotions through felt experiences and internal analytics. A tuning radio plays in the background as the dancer attempts to find clarity.
