School of Dance: Moving collaborative research together

Explore Our Programs
Providing a foundation on which to build a career as a performer, choreographer or teacher, our core curriculum in dance emphasizes developing performance skills through the study of technique, and fostering creative abilities through the study of choreography.
Explore the Performance and Choreography Program“Ohio University prepares its students for multiple possibilities once you graduate. There is an emphasis on choreography, for instance, that may open up opportunities that a performance based school wouldn’t offer. Also, our alumni work in different areas of the field such as dance movement therapy, owning a company, or heading up the Bessie Awards!”
"In dance, process is pushed because a final product is just that, an end product—to the audience it’s just one thing to watch. There is much more that goes on behind the scenes that is much more important. Everything I’ve learned is because we are taught to put the process over the product."
“Here you will be put to the test. But prior to the task you’re equipped with the knowledge from our professors. I will leave knowing myself through my art—my own way of moving—and I don’t think I would have found that anywhere else.”
