Staying on Campus

Students under 18 who are staying on campus will be housed in Sowle Hall, located at 105 South Green Drive, Athens OH, 45701. Adults will be housed at Carr Hall. If you are staying in residence, please note the following details regarding arrival and departure:

Move-in: Sunday prior to start of classes, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

Orientation: Sunday prior to start of classes, 4:00 p.m. (commuter students and parents are encouraged to attend to receive all program information) 

Move-out: Saturday after classes end, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. 

Your stay on campus will be supervised by our team of Resident Advisors and professional staff, who are always on call. At move-in you will receive your key card, which provides you access to residential facilities. All residence hall buildings are locked 24/7.

What to bring

  • Linens – towels, extra-long twin sheet set including pillow and blanket/comforter (use two flat sheets of a different size if you do not have extra-long twin)
  • Alarm clock or phone and charger
  • All toiletries (CVS store within walking distance, not open weekends during the summer)
  • Clothing appropriate for class, for being outdoors, and for attending exhibition or performance events (laundry available in residence facilities)
  • Optional bathing suit for visit to Campus Recreation Center

Meal Plan

Meals will be held at Nelson Dining Hall for buffet-style breakfast and dinner, and a variety of Uptown restaurants will host students for lunch to showcase all that Athens has to offer. Students will find a range of menu offerings for all dietary needs, and those with severe allergies or restrictions who may need special menu planning should contact Ohio University Culinary Services’ dietitian: Angie Bohyer MAHE, RD, LD at 740-597-3143, bohyer@ohio.edu for additional information or support.

Commuter students should plan to bring a lunch or purchase their meals at either campus cafeterias or local restaurants.
