High School Choreography Competition

Overview

Our High School Choreography Competition is an opportunity for talented dancers and choreographers to submit a video of solo choreography for a chance to receive scholarships, receive feedback from dance professionals, mentorship from junior and senior dance majors at Ohio University, and earn the opportunity to perform the solo in one of our annual concerts.

We are seeking short choreographic solos that capture various themes related to social justice and equity including, but not limited to race, gender, class, or allyship.

Awards

First Place:

    $10,000 scholarship**
    An opportunity to perform their solo in one of our School of Dance concerts
    Full scholarship to participate in our annual Summer Dance Institute
    Feedback from dance professionals
    Mentorship from a junior or senior dance major

 
Honorable Mentions:

    $5,000 scholarship**
    Full scholarship to participate in our annual Summer Dance Institute

Competition Details

 
Eligibility: The Ohio University School of Dance Choreography Competition is open to current high school students and recent graduates. Students considering a transfer to Ohio University are also eligible. Any winner that is a high school freshman through junior, your award will become active upon acceptance to OHIO University and enrollment as a Dance major.

Participants must submit a completed entry form that will include a link to a YouTube or Vimeo performance.
 
The date of the solo performance will be determined when the regular admissions process to Ohio University has been completed and the student has auditioned and been accepted to the School of Dance. Scholarship awards are subject to winners pursuing a degree in Dance at Ohio University and maintaining academic eligibility.

 

**Scholarships will be applied to OHIO University Undergraduate Tuition upon admission and matriculation into a College of Fine Arts major. Scholarship prizes are distributed over four years of study with maintenance of eligibility (major in the College of Fine Arts, 3.0 GPA, 15 earned hours per Fall/Spring term). Choreography Competition Scholarships are stackable with other OHIO awards and scholarships up to the full cost of resident tuition.
