Design and Construction provides the Ohio University main campus and five regional campuses with design and construction management services as well as technical expertise that incorporate the best practices in campus design and green building development.

Design and Construction will strive to have all University projects built using quality construction based on just and fair administration, integrity, and professionalism and by incorporating University Design and Construction Standards.

Design and Construction recognizes Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and partners with University Planning and Space Management and the Office of Sustainability to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability.

ATHENS CAMPUS - 2022 Steam Outage 

2022 Outage Dates: May 7, 2022- May 20, 2022

During the above dates, the entire campus will be without steam. In some buildings there may be temperature variations depending upon their system capabilities. Additionally, any special equipment relying on steam to function will be inoperable (for example, some autoclaves are reliant upon steam).

Facilities Management and Safety (FMS) has scheduled a campus-wide electric outage for the following time:

  • Saturday, May 7, 2022 to Sunday, May 8, 2022
    • Total Duration: 12 hours
    • Start: 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022
    • Complete: 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2022 



Athens Campus Planned Power Outages

Athens Campus - Planned Power Outages for November and December 2019

Ohio University’s Facilities Management and Safety has scheduled a series of widespread electrical outages on the Athens Campus to allow for improvements to the campus electrical distribution system. 

The intent of these efforts is to provide an opportunity to perform preventative maintenance, upgrade equipment in the main electric substation and allow for the new HCOM Academic Facility and Chilled Water Plant 3 to be added to the University’s electric distribution system.  The dates for the outages are provided below and have been carefully scheduled during non-business hours adjacent to major academic breaks to minimize impact to the Ohio University community. Campus Recycling and the Office of Sustainability are two departments in partnership with the Appalachia Ohio Zero Waste Initiative (AOZWI), a longstanding project supported by the local Sugar Bush Foundation, who are dedicated to the prevention of pollution and improvement of waste management in Athens. These are a few of the projects going on in this effort, as well as the people behind them.

At the October 22 OHIO home football game, Campus Recycling and its partners encourage Bobcat fans to show their true green pride by participating in the GameDay Challenge, making an effort to properly dispose of all waste created, and encouraging others to do the same. Each fall, colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada compete in the GameDay Recycling Challenge, a recycling and waste reduction competition to minimize waste generated during a single sporting event.
