Stocker Center 103

The University of Florida (UF) Distinguished Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering Panos Pardalos will speak on data science tools on Fri., April 15, from 4-5 p.m. in Stocker Center 103.

Data science tools like data mining and optimization heuristics have been used to analyze many large data sets that can be represented as a network. Pardalos will discuss data analysis in telecommunications, financial networks, social networks and neuroscience. He will also discuss recent research results on critical element selection, which involves identifying the nodes, arcs, paths and clusters that are responsible for network cohesion.

A leading expert in global and combinatorial optimization, Pardalos is an affiliated faculty member of the UF Computer and Information Science Department, Biomedical Engineering Department and the Hellenic Studies Center. He is the director of the Center for Applied Optimization and has won numerous awards including the 2013 Constantin Caratheodory Prize and the 2013 EURO Gold Medal.
