Joseph Jachinowski, BSEE ’79, CEO of Mevion Medical Systems, will give a lecture on the future of radiation therapy for cancer treatment at a special colloquium on Wed., Feb. 10, at 4:10 p.m. in Walter Hall 245.

Mevion Medical Systems developed the world’s first single-room proton therapy system for cancer therapy, and although it has been effective for treatment of certain diseases, the use of protons is limited due to its high cost and operational complexity.

Jachinowski, this year’s recipient of the Konneker Medal for Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, will introduce the development of a new superconducting synchrocyclotron to make proton therapy more widely available for treatment.
