About Our Research

Mechanical Engineering faculty and students in the Russ College have a broad background but focus primarily on three areas of research: energy and the environment, materials and manufacturing, and bioengineering. Through the development of new materials, conceiving new applications for them in medical, environmental and educational settings, and bringing them to industrial scale, we create for good.

Our Research Units

  •

    Center for Advanced Materials Processing

From the metal alloys used in automobiles to the polymer pollution filters used in a nearby power plant, society depends on engineered materials. At the Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP), engineers focus specifically on creating and refining processes and manufacturing methods to ensure the quality of those materials.

  •

Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment

At Ohio University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (ISEE), we conduct applied research to develop innovative process technologies that enable the sustainable and economic use of natural and renewable energy resources for the production of fuels, chemicals, and materials that our society depends on.
