Technology Resources

  • Borrow a computer: If you don’t have access to a computer, Email Grace Sallar.
  • Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Both are available as free downloads and work best with OHIO technology.
  • Virtual desktop environment (VDI): Remote software delivery has been expanded. There is now a VDI app on the startup page. To get started, download the VMWare Horizon View Client for your OS and install it. Restart, then launch the Horizon Client and add the server At the VMWare Horizon Client screen, you’ll see our Engineering Desktop 2019 pool, plus many VDI apps like Matlab, Adobe Acrobat DC, Project, etc. Use the VDI apps whenever possible. A VMWare agent will enable you to connect remotely to physical computers in Stocker Center labs 192 and 127, which are labeled as such. Financial Concerns

  • Emergency microgrants: The OHIO Dean of Students Office offers emergency microgrants to cover rent, utilities, groceries, childcare or other unforeseen circumstances. Please note funds are limited and cannot be requested for tuition or fees. Learn more here.
  • Unemployment benefits: Students experiencing a loss of income may be eligible for unemployment benefits if they worked for at least 20 weeks and earned $269 per week or more. Learn more here.
  • Bobcats Take Care campaign: OHIO alumni, donors, and friends want to lend their support. The online “Bobcats Take Care” campaign at shares messages of support and comfort to Bobcats near and far, and invites donations to the newly-created COVID-19 Ohio University Student Emergency Fund. In true Bobcat spirit, #BobcatsTakeCare messages of support are already being posted, and funds are being donated to help students on our Athens and regional campuses who are experiencing financial hardships as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
