Meet + Greet: Debarati Dasgupta, Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Aug 31, 2018

Debarati Dasgupta followed her research interests all the way to Ohio University. Thanks to her former professors and research interests, she’s ready to create for good.

Where you from, and what brought you to Athens?

I’m from Kolkata, India, and I came to Ohio University to pursue a postdoctoral research career.

Where did you prepare for your profession (education), and what was memorable about your experience?

I received my master’s and doctoral degrees in chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in New Delhi, India. There, I had access to many resources and great professors. I had the opportunity to teach undergraduates, which helped me realize I could spread knowledge to the world around me.

Was there a moment or time you knew you’d become a researcher?

While there’s not a single moment or time I can pick out, my Ph.D. advisor and other professors ignited my passion for research – through research, I can give the world a technology which could save lives of many.

At the Russ College, we “create for good.” You’ll be hearing this a lot because it’s true. How will you “create for good” while you’re at the Russ College?

I’m working to develop a new computational pathway to eradicate diseases that are fatal to mankind.

What’s the most awesome thing about Athens so far?

The people of Athens are very helpful, gentle and kind.

What do you do when you’re not creating for good?

When I’m not pursuing academic goals, I keep reminding myself how privileged I am to have the opportunity to hone my academic skills at OHIO.

What are you looking forward to most during your time here at the Russ College?

Conducting research that’s meaningful, pragmatic, and helpful to society.
