The Ohio University student chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) warmed visiting parents Saturday for the group’s annual Dad’s Weekend chili-cook off, held at the OHIO Airport (UNI).  The event fell on a beautiful and sunny Saturday where dads, their daughters, community members and aviation members experienced different types of chili.

Dads and students joined faculty, staff and community members to raise funds for WAI members to host its annual Girls in Aviation Day; and to attend the national organization’s conference this March in Long Beach, California, for networking and professional development.

Records Management Associate and Chief Flight Dispatcher Theresa Meyer, who is the group’s adviser, said winning recipes are based on tasters' votes.

“We’ve been doing this for years, so some friendly rivalries have developed, but we all support each other,” said Theresa Meyer, adviser for the group and dispatcher for the Department of Aviation. “Our main goal is to have fun with the dads and community members.”

Awards are given in four categories: best mild chili, best spicy chili, best non-traditional chili (not including beef or a tomato base sauce), and best overall chili. Best mild chili went to Mike Moreaux, father of first-year student Matt Moreaux; best spicy chili went to Meyer; best non-traditional chili went to senior Rebecca Sedlak; and best overall chili went to Meyer.
