Flying Bobcats compete in annual regional NIFA competition

Ohio University’s flight team competed in the annual NIFA Region 3 SAFECON competition at the Ohio State (OSU) campus last week against Bowling Green State University, Kent State University, OSU, the University of Cincinnati, and Western Michigan University.

Held Oct. 14-19, the competition included a message drop, navigation and power-off landing events. Ground competitions included a simulated comprehensive aircraft navigation test (SCAN), an aircraft recognition test and a ground trainer test (SIM). 

The Flying Bobcats placed in many of the events, including SCAN and SIM. Sophomore aviation flight major Sean Antill received outstanding team member, as voted on by the team. 

Participants were freshmen Sammy Cockrell, Braden Dang, Matthew Dorrell, Bailey Farley, Nathan Hawkins, Jeremy Juhn, Lauren Mitchell and Cristian Velazquez; sophomores Sean Antill, Timothy Dovci and Ryan Wilson; and juniors Sarah Bailey, Sean Clunn, Cale Miller and Holden Rawn.
