Omar Movil-Cabrera has more than six years of experience in industry and more than seven years in academia as a nanoscientist. One of his research projects is based on the development of new polymer electrolyte nanocomposites for applications in fuel cells and supercapacitors using functionalized graphene oxide and carbon quantum dots as fillers. He is also using the concept of "industrial waste valorization,” where the idea is to obtain chemicals with high commercial value through the electrochemical oxidation of lignin, a waste product of the pulp and paper industry.

Research Interests: polymer nanocomposite membranes and electrocatalyst nanomaterials for application in renewable energy and waste valorization technology

All Degrees Earned: Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, University of Puerto Rico, 2013; B.S., Chemical Engineering, Universidad del Atlantico, 2002
