Dr. Amir Farnoud joined the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering in August 2015 after performing post-doctoral training at SUNY-Stony Brook. Focused where biology and nanotechnology, meet, his research group aims to understand the complex phenomena that occur when nanomaterials and biological interfaces collide. Specifically, his group studies nanoparticle interactions with the cell plasma membrane, a lipid bilayer that separates the cell from the outer environment. Current research projects are focused on understanding the mechanisms by which nanomaterials induce damage in the cell membrane of mammalian cells, using nanoparticle-membrane interactions for the development of novel disease screening/diagnosis assays, and developing nanocarriers for site-specific delivery of drugs.
