In conjunction with the National Academy of Engineering and the Ohio University Foundation, the Russ College bestows the biennial Russ Prize, the top bioengineering honor in the world. Made possible by a groundbreaking gift made by the late Fritz J. (BSEE '42) and Dolores H. Russ and modeled after the Nobel Prize, the Russ Prize recognizes outstanding achievement in an engineering field of critical importance that improves the human condition with $500,000 and a gold medallion.
The Russ College also recognizes outstanding teaching, research, and service to the college with annual employee awards. An award for each outstanding administrative, technical, and classified staff from a pool nominated by their peers is presented in the spring.
Teaching and research awards established by Fritz and Dolores Russ and Marvin and Ann White are presented to outstanding faculty for undergraduate teaching excellence as well as research publications.
Student leadership awards are presented annually by the Robe Leadership Institute to recognize an outstanding senior student leader in each department. One of these awardees also receives the Gerald Loehr Senior Leadership Award, the highest leadership honor for a Russ College graduating senior. Exemplary faculty and staff contributions are recognized with a leadership/service award sponsored by the Robe Leadership Institute.
