Since 2002, Dennis Irwin has led the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University into an exciting chapter of unprecedented alumni engagement and philanthropy, research prominence and academic excellence.
Under his tenure as dean, the college received the largest gift ever given to a college in Ohio or to a public engineering college in the country: a $124 million bequest from the estate of Fritz and Dolores Russ. Irwin also led the vision and completion of the new Academic & Research Center in conjunction with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition, the Russ College is well on its way to achieving its $134 million goal within the Ohio University The Promise Lives campaign, with $120 million raised through 2012 and two years left to surpass it.
He has also led the development of a doctoral program in civil engineering, master's degrees in engineering management and biomedical engineering, and a unique mathematics initiative to provide Russ College students with instruction tailored to their needs.
An electrical engineer by trade and esteemed educator, Irwin and his exemplary leadership strengthen the Russ College's reputation as a research and educational institution of national excellence - and a place where students, faculty and staff create for good.
