Early Head Start Education Specialist

Position Summary:  The Education Specialist will supervise assigned education staff.  The Education Specialist will be responsible for coordinating educational activities with the home visitors to meet the individualized needs of children.  The Education Specialist will work in conjunction with other staff to ensure delivery of services that are consistent program wide.  The Education Specialist will facilitate methods and procedures that will ensure compliance with Head Start performance standards, JFS licensing regulations, and promote Developmentally Appropriate Practices.  The Education Specialist will function in a professional manner at all times.

Qualifications and Expectations:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education required.
  2. Minimum of two years experience working in an early childhood program preferred.
  3. Must be knowledgeable of Head Start Performance Standards and JFS licensing regulations and actively participate in the implementation and evaluation of program policies, activities and objectives to meet program requirements.
  4. Must have a positive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
  5. Must be willing to travel to additional centers in Fairfield County if applicable.
  6. Must possess good organizational skills involving consistency, flexibility and structure.  Computer skills recommended.
  7. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families, and be sensitive to individual differences.
  9. Must work with all staff and families in a professional manner and be willing to accept and share additional responsibilities to achieve team goal.
  10. Must demonstrate an appropriate professional demeanor and appearance at all times.

Beginning Salary:          $16.10 per hour

Work Schedule:   40 hours per week/ 52 weeks per year
