Recreation and Sport Pedagogy Minors & Certificates
The certificate program in ecotourism is a multidisciplinary program focused on promoting sustainable tourism development through a balance of environmental, economic, and socio-cultural aspects of nature-based tourism. Open to all Ohio University students, the certificate is especially relevant to students majoring in outdoor recreation and education; recreation management; restaurant, hotel, and tourism; global studies, environmental studies, entrepreneurship, and other business related disciplines. The certificate requires a minimum of 18 credit hours of coursework.
The coaching education minor will provide all students interested in athletic coaching (e.g., youth, interscholastic or intercollegiate) with the opportunity to gain applied experiences and knowledge in the profession. Students with a coaching minor will strengthen their skills and knowledge to be able to assist head coaches, become youth sport head coaches and increase their potential for admission to a graduate program in coaching education. The coaching education minor requires a minimum of 16 hours.
This certificate program is for all Ohio University students who are interested in planning sporting events, recreational festivals and events, hospitality and tourism festivals and events, and music festivals and events, community events, and a wide range of other festivals, event, and entertainment experiences.
The outdoor recreation and education minor prepares students for professional opportunities in the field of outdoor recreation and education. Students engage in a combination of traditional didactic and field-based learning opportunities to develop technical skills, theoretical knowledge, leadership and teaching ability needed for successful practice as professionals in the field. Students have the opportunity to learn to organize, lead, and evaluate a variety of outdoor adventure programs. The minor is intended to complement other fields of study related to outdoor recreation and education. The minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours of coursework to complete.
This minor focuses on the management of recreation and leisure services. Recreation management careers are broad-based and include municipal park and recreation departments, campus recreation, camps, marinas, resorts, and outdoor agencies.
