Recreation and Sport Pedagogy

The Department of Recreation and Sport Pedagogy offers undergraduate and master’s degrees in two academic programs. Parks, Recreation & Leisure Studies offers undergraduate majors and minors in Outdoor Recreation & Education and Recreation Management, as well as a master’s degree in Parks, Recreation & Leisure Studies with concentrations in Outdoor Recreation & Education, Recreation Management, and Campus Recreation. Coaching, Health & Physical Education offers undergraduate majors in Health & Physical Education and Physical Activity & Sport Coaching, as well as master’s degrees in Coaching Education, Soccer Coaching Education, and Professional Tennis Management. The department is also home to the Physical Activity & Wellness program, which offers a variety of activity-based courses intended to promote health and wellness through participation in physical activity and recreational sport. Finally, the department offers certificate programs in Ecotourism and Festivals, Events & Entertainment Management, as well as minors in Outdoor Recreation & Education, Recreation Management, and Coaching.

    Featured in the Athenaeum: Nina Adjanin, a doctoral student in Instructional Technology, studied surging glaciers with a research team from University of Scotland and Norway University.

    Featured in the Athenaeum: Vlatko Andonovski, who completed his master’s degree in Soccer Coaching Education in 2018, is head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Alumni Spotlight: Alan Rousseau

Flannery Jewell

Alan Rousseau and his climbing partner became the first-ever alpinists to reach the 6,940-meter west face summit of Tengi Ragi Tau in the Nepal Himalayas. Rousseau got his master’s in Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies.
